Las Vegas Wedding - Julie Phillips & David Peck

Most people would agree we have a friendly, fun & welcoming rock & roll scene in Melbourne. I am privileged to have met so many wonderful rockers over the years and have become friends with them, including Julie Phillips and David Peck. This lovely couple is well known to many in our rock & roll dance scene and they recently got married on 20th October 2011 in Las Vegas. I took the opportunity to speak with Julie about their Las Vegas “Elvis” wedding and also generally about our dance scene.

    How did you meet David?

We first met each other at rock & roll dances about 11 years ago.

Where do you & David dance rock & roll nowadays?

Mainly at Dandenong Workers Club, Seaford RSL and Mordy Rock. We go to Coolangatta every year for Wintersun Rock & Roll Festival (now Cooly Rocks On) and also the Lake Entrance’s Valentines weekend. We hope to go to Parkes next year for its annual Elvis Festival.

Why did you & David choose to have your wedding in Las Vegas?

We wanted to do something different but special as well. We met at rock & roll dancing, and we both love Elvis music so naturally these are the themes we wanted
to incorporate into our special day together – our wedding in Las Vegas!

How difficult or easy to make arrangement for a Las Vegas wedding?

Many options are available ranging from a simple drive through wedding to a more expensive custom plan wedding costing several thousand dollars. Also there’s a standard package wedding plan or one could arrange for specific features which we did by emailing them in advance. For our wedding, we requested that Elvis sing for us “Love Me Tender” when we walk down the aisle then singing “It’s Now or Never” before the vow followed by “Teddy Bear” and “Good Luck Charm” and closing with the finale “Viva Las Vegas”.

How would you describe your Las Vegas wedding experience?

It was a fantastic experience for us and we love it. Prior to the wedding we did some tours and we invited friends from those tours to be with us on our wedding day.

How would you describe the Melbourne rock & roll scene?

Fantastic and spoiled for choice. Compared to what we have seen when travelling overseas, we are very lucky in Melbourne indeed for rock & roll dancing and music.

Finally, who are your favourite rock & roll bands in Melbourne?

We love all the Melbourne rock & roll bands – Flashback, Vincents, Speedsters, Fender Benders, Black Hill Ramblers, Billy O’Neil & the Headliners, Honey B & the Stingers etc. We are less partial to rockabilly bands as we find its music occasionally a bit fast to do some of our favourite dance moves.

Thank you, Julie & David – congratulations on your wedding. May happiness and rock & roll dancing surround you, and be with you in all the days of your life together forever.

Re: Las Vegas Wedding - Julie Phillips & David Peck

I said my congratulations to Julie and David when they arrived at the Workers direct from their flight home from Las Vegas. It was a pleasure to hear of their wedding and to see them so obviously happy together. Nice to see that Aussie's can do the classic Las Vegas wedding that we see in movies. Not a bad idea at all and sure to always remain a fond memory for them. Enjoyed reading the interview Paul and the video is great......
Dance like nobody's watching. Love like you've never been hurt
