It’s 2.30am Sunday morning the little Pyalong hall is all quiet and in darkness the floor is swept and clean, tables and chairs are stacked neatly away, the garbage bins are full and there is a distinct odor of freshly cooked finger food, wafting around, a few empty plastic plates litter the shelf in the kitchen. Other than that nobody would know that the white F100 belonging to Rockabilly Mick had been parked out the front since 6.30pm on Saturday night, parked next to it was a nicely restored Chevy impala, and a beautiful Caddy. and next to that Nornies old orange/ red F100 tray.
Pyalong was alight on Saturday night I’m guessing the whole town and everybody in that dancer packed hall knew, Rockabilly was alive and well. “ Hank & the Cosmonauts” had things rolling, rockin’& Rollin’, dancin’ & jumpin’ about 8 oclock.
For the last few stragglers arriving late for this dance it was, sit on a cushion if you can find one, a total sell out with added extras too many bums no chairs to spare. They came from all over, Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury, Seymour, Pakenham, Sunbury, Walan, Melbourne; I didn’t talk to everybody so they probably came from somewhere else & reckon they all had a bl**dy good time like we did.
Jump & Jive fired up next with some of their tried and proven dance music & the floor was a sea of dancers, rockin’ to the sound from Sammy’s Rockabilly crew they played hard and fast no holds barred if the rest of the dancers were anything like us the perspiration was running, the floor was great, clean and fast.
The Pyalong hall has been tested many times now and it sure can withstand the test from that fantastic rockabilly music and all those dancers jumping and rocking on the big dance floor, the joint was probably built in the 50s with dancing in mind, and it was in its element.
I got it straight this time, couldn’t work it out on previous occasions, you see, some people go to Pyalong for the food, they seem to sit around soak up the music and, come supper time, hog in and munch, Nornie is a pretty good cook and she certainly knows how to delight the palette, this seems to draw the supper connoisseur’s to the hall, not sure about the dancing skills though.
Mick did a wonderful job again on the floor with his special polish technique method It’s so good to have a clean & fast dance floor.
Thanks Mick & Nornie can’t wait till the next dance. We’ll be counting the days
Thanks to the bands. Sammy & Hank we’ll see you at another dance real soon.
