    Re: pearl shells,burl ives.

I remember dancing to this style of music at the Ivanhoe Town Hall on Wednesday and Saturday nights. We got the train from Eltham when Eltham was a little bush village where folk went for Sunday picnics.

The big band played upstairs and there was a smaller floor dance floor downstairs for what they called 'rock and roll'. I have to admit that I spent more time on the big floor as that's where the girls were. There was a bloke who stood by a spotlight on the mezzanine floor and his job was to watch for 'bad' behaviour. If a couple were getting a bit friendly - and I mean a bit, as in a little smooge and maybe a kiss - the goose put the full spotlight on the couple to embarress them and stop such lewd behaviour.

    Ah, they were the days.
