Deni did it, and did it well

Rockers came to Deniliquin from Horsham, Shepparton, Bendigo, Barham, Swan Hill, Cobram (even Kirwan's Bridge) and probably from a few places I missed, for the mini festival this weekend. Deniliquin has a reputation for friendliness and if everyone else found the same as we did we'll all be back next time.

The numbers were low on Friday night, possibly because it was a bit of a distance to travel after work, but while the numbers were low the enthusiasm was high. And why not with the Prairie Oysters playing the live music and D J Jeff keeping the dancers on their feet during the breaks. With Tony and the Prairie Oysters and D J Jeff it was a great start to what looked like being an action filled festival. In fact, D J Jeff did a fantastic job of keeping the action moving from around six on Friday night till midnight on Saturday with barely a break for rest. Well done DJ Jeff! And of course, thanks to the Deniliquin RSL Rock and Roll club. If not for all the work they put in there'd be no “Rock it in Deni”. Bloody well done Guys!!!

On Saturday afternoon about forty people attended a workshop with Jenny and Ken from Shepparton where we worked on a routine called “Peta's Move”. The routine is a tribute to Peta and Dennis Clumb from King Island as Peta is seriously ill. Vonnie and I struggled our way through for about an hour and a half and then decided to watch as it was a bit too advanced for youngsters like us. All was not lost as we picked up a few interesting moves and it seemed that most of the others had it under control – up to a point. After a bit of practice when they get home we'll expect to see “Peta's Move” performed to perfection.

Following the workshop DJ Jeff continued the music, only stopping for dinner and we were back at it. Sweetrock were playing and being a non-work day the numbers were up on the previous night. What can one say about Sweekrock? We all know them and all love them. Good music and great performers and I reckon that they were even better than usual. Maybe the country air and bush hospitality did it. Joel from Cobram River Rockers certainly thought that they were better than usual. He walked back to his table looking like the proverbial Cheshire Cat.

What else can I say except that we “Did it in Deni”

Re: Deni did it, and did it well

Nice review Cirrus; The Oysters were our attraction and it was time & money well spent, to travel 21/2 hrs to Deniliquin, we haven’t seen the Oysters for some time but they certainly haven’t lost any of their sting, we had a great time Friday night and as mentioned plenty of room on the floor, The Weather was a bit miserable & chilly but the music was hot.
Plenty of people turned up Saturday so at the main dance, when the floor was a little cramped during the good songs, we ventured down stairs for some lively music from a band called Aquarius, now these guys were playing to themselves in the main lounge, so we decided to try & liven things up a little, made a couple of requests and started the dancing happening, the little dance floor soon filled, so we had our own little party, travelling between Aquarius , Sweetrock & Jeff we had a very enjoyable Saturday night, the Club emptied us out at 1 am, For a chilly walk back to our bed.
In times gone by when we have attended this dance which has been running for quite some number of years & previously to this year Free entry there was a reasonable attendance of Melbourne dancers, there were very few if any at these dances
It certainly wasn’t a sell out, quite a few empty tables, the weather was very crappy and cold, I figure home by the fire was where they all were.
Big thanks to The Deni RSL club, Deni Rockers, Special thanks to Tony, Rob, Dave & Jamie “The P Oysters” loved it! Just loved it! To Sweetrock Thanks guys you’ve got too much energy, I start perspiring just watching you jump around the stage it’s a floor show, with music. And last but not least to the guys playing to nobody over that little floor in the main lounge “Aquarius” we enjoyed every minute of your music thank you.

Cool Re: Deni did it, and did it well

Friday night was fantastic, music was awesome and atmosphere was fantastic. Great to meet you Cirrus and love your write up.

Bob n Tracy here from Swan Hill had an awesome night on the Friday.

Unable to stay for the Sat due to work commitments.

Meet up, with some great friends from Horsham and am looking forward to rip up the floor with them again soon.
