Gippy Rocks hosted its fifth year of Rock n Roll Festival in Sale last weekend and it was a very enjoyable weekend of R&R music, dancing and competition. The weather was fantastic all weekend. It was also my first time attending a R&R event in Sale. Gippy Rocks is a charity event with all profits going to charity and for a very good cause. Well done to Gippy Rocks....
Despite some pre-event negative publicity and comments on social media about the changes that were to take place for Ballarat Beat, I nonetheless went ahead to attend this rock n roll music and dance festival. I am so glad I went as I had a great time on the weekend listening and dancing to some of Melbourne's favourite bands which included Scotty Baker, Jukebox Racket, Louis King & the Liars... Geelong Jukebox Rockers staged its annual Summer R&R festival just last weekend and it was a great success indeed. The rockers I spoke to all had a great time. This R&R festival is one of the "must attend" festivals in Melbourne/Victoria for those who truly love our 1950's style music, dancing and classic cars.
The festival was staged over 3 days starting with the Friday... [Read More]

This is only my personal opinion as someone who has been in our 1950's style music & dance scene for a number of years in Melbourne. There have been so many people & bands who have contributed greatly to our 1950's scene during 2018 and I am sure many of you have your own personal favourite(s) as well. I would be happy to hear from you of your favourite people, bands, festivals and dance... [Read More]

Our 1950's scene in Melbourne is really diverse and vibrant in so many ways. For many rockers, they enjoy the dancing and live music in one of the many venues in town like the dances held at Alleycatz, Flipside, Furlan Club, Triple Fs, Freccia, Rosebud RSL, Rosebud Italian Club and at clubs in Altona and Sunshine etc.
Others like to dance to music at the various RSL clubs or at... [Read More]

I first posted this in Sept 2015 and thought it fitting to post again with a few updates.
At the end of 2013 one of Melbourne's favourite dances "Little Maria's" at the Whitehorse Club came to an end after more than 13 years of fortnightly dances. All the regulars were upset that their favourite dance was to close and Little... [Read More]

Happy Days diner at 93 Main Street Croydon was officially opened yesterday. The Rockin' Tones was there to add a touch of the 1950's era playing a mix of popular classic & Jukebox tunes. Adding to that, some rock n roll dancers soaked in the atmosphere dancing on the shopfront pavement much to the delight of the general public who clearly loves the 1950's music and of course, the dancing too.... A sensational night of 1950's music and rock n roll dancing at Marelle's Triple F dance at the CAV Hall in Wantirna South. A first for me as I have never been to a dance at the CAV Hall nor to FFF's Saturday night dance. Also my first time dancing to the Rockin' Tones, a new Melbourne based 5 piece band, complete with a saxophone and dedicated to providing the best of the classic and Jukebox rock... [Read More]

Flipside celebrated it's 100th dance milestone last Friday night at the Hungarian Community Centre in Wantirna South. The venue was jam-packed with rockers & regular patrons who were there to celebrate a very happy event. I could remember those early days of doom & gloom when Lt Maria finally closed its door after hosting her regular fortnightly dance for many years. Rockers were... [Read More]
